Genesis 1 and 2 Agreement or Contradiction?

Genesis chapters 1 and 2 have been a bit of a mystery in that they appear to be in conflict with one another. However, now that we understand DNA, these two chapters converge into one creation account that is logically and chronologically perfect.

Genesis 1 documents the order of creation. Genesis chapter 2, on the other hand, documents the order in which life was given to the creation: the activation.

Everything was created before the seventh day, but the plants had not been planted and neither animals nor man had been given the breath of life; they were dormant. The Bible is clear, God rested on the seventh day; if God had given man life on the sixth day, God could not have rested on the seventh; He wouldn’t abandon Adam nor would He want to miss Adam’s first day of life; but, after God rested, He formed Adam from the earth in accordance with the DNA created and selected on day 6; then, God gave Adam the breath of life and he, Adam, became a living soul.

This notion is further supported by the parable of the farmer who planted his field with good seed and then rested (Matthew 13:24). As the farmer rested, the seeds had not yet started growing, they were still dormant, still in seed form. This is the way it was on day 7 of creation; everything was created, ready for activation, but dormant. Then, in Genesis chapter 2, after God rested,┬áHe took the DNA created on day 6 and formed man, and breathed life into him. For those of you who study Hebrew, you will see that the word used in Genesis 1 is different from the one used in Genesis 2. The word used in Genesis 1 is “bara” having the sense of selecting, and in Genesis 2 the word “yatsar” has the sense of forming or squeezing into shape much like a potter forming his pot.

Here is some of the Genesis 2 account of the creation which shows that the materials were available, the plans were complete, and then came the activation in according to the Creators design and purpose. Please consider the following excerpts from Genesis 2:

Genesis 2:5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up–for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground,

Genesis 2:7 then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

Genesis 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

Genesis 2:19 Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

Genesis 2:20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. . (ESV)

So, Adam was given life first, then the plants, then the animals. It all makes sense.

This also explains Genesis 5:2 which has been a mystery until now:

Genesis 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. (KJV)

He created them male and female and called their name Adam. He called their name Adam. Adam embodied all human genetic variation. Your genes, my genes, everyone’s genes were in Adam. We were all created on day 6 and God called our name “Adam;” the name “Adam” means “man.” It goes on to say “in the day when they were created.” Again, the they is we. Our DNA was created on day six, but we were formed and given life in our mother’s womb.

Dear friends and children, know that the Bible is true and can be trusted. Genesis chapters one and two are logically and chronologically perfect.

  1. Wonder-full. finally, the ackowledgement of Biblical Truth and Science. Our spirit (our inner-man) bears wittness to The Spirit of Truth (The Holy Spirit) (our known con-science)

  2. Amazing Truth of GOD revealed!
Thank you for this research… please continue this good work for the glory of Almighty

  3. Amazing to know the truth, that God tells us by His Words. Please continue everything that were still mysteries for me. God bless you for what you have done. Thank you.

  4. Hi

Could you please explain the passage in Genesis, “Let us create man in our own image”. To me this depicts, plural. So either more than 1 God, or male & female within one God entity.

    1. Hi,
Since I am a Christian, I believe the “us” refers to the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. However, I am sure many will disagree. I think one thing we can agree on is that it is “Elohim” who makes this statement and He is powerful enough so that describing Him with a pronoun is beyond the capability of any human language.

      1. What you believe is totally unimportant and extremely irrelevant. Only facts count. The “Father, son & Holy spirit” that you talk about is a manmade construct i.e the trinity.

        1. I have been appointed by God as a Bible teacher, it is a very large responsibility. However, I try to lead believers to find the truth for themselves and not rely on me or any other teacher. You have evidently achieved that, but you may want to work on your patience and kindness a little, it is important.

          1. I want to know whether there is practical or scientific evidence of existence of God. Or it is only our assumtion. The answers you are providing are not sufficient.

          2. Dear masum hydar raja,
I believe there is evidence of God’s existence everywhere; for instance, DNA, the code of life. DNA is a language of four letters that orchestrates all life. The Bible says that all things were spoken into existence by God’s word, and we have that evidence very clearly in DNA.

Also, the existence of one single hydrogen atom is proof of a divine creator. Think about it, the existence of anything is proof of God.

This is the age of faith and God has chosen to provide us with a way of rejecting Him. This is His nature; He wants to be truly loved for His attributes and not His benefits.

            Thank you for your question.

      2. in above article, Gen 1 is different in Gen 2 creations. God is all powerful, eternal, alpha and omega that creating lower than him (all creation)he commands his power to create, the WORD, so in all-creations, the WORD is the father-of-all-creations.
gen-1: god created all spirits of angels, plants, animals etc., including an angel “man” in dual nature or male and female DNA codes as you wish in the spirit-earth or first its not unusual that God is talking “US” to his spirit-word-creator, creating the most beautiful angel in his image and above all archangels (Gabri-el, Mika-el, Uri-el, Japha-el) which is SATANA-EL, created in his image and likenes (a spirit and everlasting)

gen-2: am sorry but God “formed” not create ADAM from dust of created earth, also in dual nature of male and female, but also a lower than angels but not God’s image of everlasting, placed in created heavenly-garden, east of created heavenly-paradise. we see, Eve was created out-of-
adam’s ribs or the female part of him, God’s did not breath life for that fenale woman came from adam who has life-a living soul. he said, the earth is void of plants, birds and animals, so it is the second earth what God said in Gen-1 is different from Gen. 2, adam and eve is in Gen-2 not in Gen-1. you destroy God’s word-power of creations when you say Gen-1 is the same as Gen-2 making God-word repeating his “creations”
God will not placed a tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden’s center only side by side with tree of life only to forbid its eating and prevents the other after eating, its time to “cleanse” God from the untruth and misunderstanding or created lies by man otherwise all events good and evil comes from god and man after becoming evil God came to save if we explain that way and not search for truth the bible is a great play-script of God playing in his own script, the hero and a villain, Good as he is also the evil, even man he came into his life to save, to sin again and to punish the-flood-sodom-jesus now humans are the same evil, so humans created god and adore their creations, have the power to explain god in the pedestal of heaven or a circus man walking on strings. the title? “the show of a dualistic God”, half goood half evil

    2. God is talkingto his son jesus.he was the first creation of god thats why god called him the only begoten son .He was in heaven before the time the god sent him down to earth thru Marry by the hollyspirit of god.He was tranfer to Marry woumb.,then he was name jesus.

    3. The bible only foretold this ” let us create man in our own image” God at that point was talking to some people and to my best of understanding i realized God was talking to angels. because before creation they existed and creation was made before their eyes. Jesus christ is a typically example. the scriptures say that before creation he existed

    4. Yes I will disagree. The US, reffered to are the father and the son, the spirit is not a third entity. You do god a serious diservice pushing this false doctrine.
While there can be no absolute proof, the gap that seems to exsist between gen 1 and gen 1,2 ix that God is outside of time, and is not subject to it, the days of creation were not days as we know them, gods creative day could be, and probably was eons in length, so when god created male and female, he did just that. We call them neanderthal now, these people were not the spiritual aware creatures that Adam and Eve were. The day they were created and the next day could and was eons in length, I struggle with it being millions or billions of years, but it certainly was not 24 hrs.

    5. When the father said let us create man in our own image he already answering your question but yet so many douth come on somebody before I form u in your mothers whom I knew u thank u father let us ain’t that something we all have had the pleasure of his presents .the father is everything that we can ever want to be thank u lord

  5. Describing and asking questions as to what is is useless. He who is only told Moses when he asked this question, “I am”.

  6. you see dear admin, that you were bombarded by many-differing questions that needs differing replies, you admit you are a trinitarian, but a triune-God cannot solve (you also admit) my-thousands of bible questions (we)temporarily placed to “mysteries” but try to remove for a while trinitarian and replace it with ONE GOD,that is God in the OT, in the NT, came as CHRIST in the lamb/body, gave his name Jesus, to save, promised to bring after ascension the “comporter or paraclet or fosterparent” he identified from the holy spirit of/from the father ending/identifying its him again by this words: “do not be worry, I will come to you” so the father-comporter-holyspirit in jesus name is God’s 2nd coming with another role/mission on earth to help humans expose the truh between lies. if he/jesus again (as preachers admits)is the one coming in the book of revelations, is not jesus’ second, but 3rd coming, then the prophecy fulfilled that the one born of mary is the emmanuel “God with us” and the “everlasting father”

its not our beleif, but the truth, that God is ONE GOD in 3-stages of man on earth we find no single bible verse contradictions this space cannot accommodate to give you proof but to continue replying

proof/question: if jesus is a son God is father what is the personality of the holy spirit?

if jesus is a son who is his father? God or holy spirit (angel said to mary it was holy spirti who created him in her womb)
if jesus not the father is he a liar saying “before abraham I am”, “your father Moses walk with me and he wrote me” “I am the root and offspring of david”, I and the father are ONE”, “you call me good, no one is good but the father”

    1. corrections: you call me good, no one is good but the father” but he said also, “i am the good shepherd”

Jesus is God from his mouth, from the mouth of the Godfather, from the mouth of his apostle read these:
jesus mouth: “begone satan, do not temp the name of the lord your GOD”
God’s mouth in Hebrew 1:8, ” and God said, “and unto the son he said, your throne oh God is forever and ever”
Thomas mouth: “my Lord and my God”
John’s mouth: the word is God, the word became flesh” Rev.: the one coming on the throne, with vested drift in blood, the alpha and omega
bible OT’s mouth: the child will be born is the everlasting father
prophet’s mouth: he will come and john is his messenger-heralder
john d babtist mouth: repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand
Devil’s mouth on pigs” we know you are the christ of God”

      1. Dear Arthur,

Those scriptures John 10:11 and Luke 18:19 are classic Jesus and many miss the actual meaning. First of all Jesus didn’t say He was not good. He asked the question “why do you call me good?” in other words “have you discovered that I am God?” Then He summarized the entirety of Christianity when He said “No one is good except God” (the Greek word being theos). Everything he said was profound. He had to do this in order to not only get out the truth, but also protect His identity until the time was right. He was good with words because He was the Word.

        1. I think according to the Bible Jesus was not God.
If Jesus was God then he wouldn’t be referred to as my Son during his baptism. And also when he was about to die when he cried to the father, and also when he cried for the cup to passaway from him. And many more quotes! ….in my father’s house…. those who does the will of my father!

          1. Is the son of a human a human? The scriptures say that Jesus was the son of man and that He was the son of God. Jesus called Himself the son of man and admitted He was also the son of God. Someday this will all be very clear to us, but now we must take it by faith.

Thank you for your very valuable comment.

  7. you may refer these knowledge to a muslim scholar. i agree to a certain point in your explanation about DNA. study islam, all these topics are well explained in Tafseer. like how we are created, who laid who among the children of adam and eve. two females were born after abel and cain etc., the conception of jesus and mary as his mother. you will find lots of links to this topics. good luck my friend.

  8. Great connections between Genesis and DNA genetics, thank you!
However, I have trouble reconciling your idea that chapter two is chronologically separate from chapter one, rather than the widely held concept that it is a re-capitulation in personal detail. Otherwise, how can Gen.1:26-31 include instructions to Adam and his wife if they weren’t alive yet?
I’ve heard another synthesis from that Adam named the mentioned animals, then his wife was made from his rib and brought to him, all on day six, in time to receive the instructions in strict chonology, then chapter two replays personal details – using God’s personal name to establish the relationship He is forming with them.

    1. Mark,
Thank you for your question. This is very important: we believe that the problem with the decline of the church is due to this issue. Our seminaries are liberal and watered down because Genesis 1 and 2 have been deemed unreliable. So, please pray that God will give you truth on this. He has sent the Holy Spirit to “teach us all things” (John 14:26).
Please allow us to give you our thoughts:
      1. The chapter divisions have been added by man. So, read the transition between the two chapters and consider it to be logical and chronological.
      2. If all of these things happened on day six, it would be way too hectic: forming Adam, naming the thousands of kinds of animals, operating on Adam, having operation recovery time, meeting and greeting Eve, etc.
      3. It is hard to believe that God would do all this and abandon the creation the very next day to rest.
      4. We liken Genesis 1:26 to the christening of a ship. It is blessed and commissioned before it is activated. We further believe that we, you and we at Genesis and Genetics, were included in Genesis 1:26.
      5. Genesis 1 says that the beasts were created first, then man. Genesis 2, states that the man was formed first, then the beasts were formed. This is a serious difference unless you accept the difference between creation and activation.
      6. Also, take a look at the Hebrew. You will see that in chapter 1 the words for create have the sense of selection and choosing while in chapter 2 the word for create means form, or molding into a form.
Thanks again for the question; we respect all ideas and everyone’s personal quest for the truth.

  9. greetings
have just read the findings of the research on genesis 1&2 and I really find it so fascinating that man has always tried to possibly explain what God meant by saying this and that…does it mean God could say things knowing that meaning would be hidden to the general laymen? If the bible at some point provides ambiguity then the illiterate entirely depends on the scriptural interpretations by the literate. is that fair to humanity ,getting second hand information?wouldnt an omniscient God be clear and precise for all humanity to understand Him? to me the two chapters appear as two presentations one by a less enlightened geographer and the other by a well versed scholar trying to compensate the former. moreover m still unable to understand why genesis 1;1 did not appear as “In the beginning I created heaven and earth whilst dwelling in some place out there. the impression derived from the verse is that the narator tells a story about creation. the concept of God is introduced to readers and we are left with the question of who God is which and other things are explained later in the course why? God is God of perfection and order. He knows all and is well organised but the presentations about Him leaves a lot to be desired. Humanity has to accept one thing for a fact…we need to revisit the biblical facts and make the contents relevant with the current times where humanity is achieving intellectual growth through education which enables them to critically analyse data so to detect facts and illogic descrepencies in information. otherwise we will always have to defend God when the world enquire about the biblical discrepencies. indeed we have them and need to correct them before our Christian religion is casted out as void.

    1. Petros,

Your insights and questions are well taken; we have wrestled with these points for many years. The following is my conclusion which I will backup with scripture. Here we go:

The Bible is the Bible and what we think should be in it does not matter; this is the Word of God; His ways are way above our ways.

Concerning the hidden truths, yes they are hidden for some. There are several reasons that scriptures are hidden:

      (1) the time is not right

      Colossians 1:26

that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints,

      (2) They are spiritually discerned (this makes the scriptures independent of intellect or education)

      1 Corinthians 2:10

For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

      (3) There are some people that he does not want to understand the scriptures’

      Matthew 13:11

He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.

      (4) Only His lambs recognize His voice

      John 10:27

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

      (5) He wants us to seek so we can find

      Matthew 7:7

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

In conclusion, I have decided that I like the way He wrote the Bible; I have no criticism.

Thank you for this very good question.
We can both keep seeking together.
